The Åland Islands - some background information

The Åland Islands consists of more than 6,500 islands situated right between Finland and Sweden. The Åland Islands are self governed and demilitarised, though belonging to Finland. The Islands have some 27,000 inhabitants. More than 90 % of the population are Swedish-speaking.
